Why do skimmers break in?

Rather why do skimmers NEED to break in? What changes in the days/weeks after they are set up than causes them to skimmer different?

2 main reasons.

Acrylic skimmers have residual oils left over from production that must be broken down before the skimmer can devlope a proper slime coat.

The Second reason is the slime coat. This coating on this inside of the skimmer must develope before the skimmer will function properly.
