Why do they have to do this while I don't have a job?!

yeah i hear ya jay.. i guess no one has ever explained the coolness of those to me. when i see them i jus think hmm hlaf dead lookin exspensive candy cane.

whats up with these things? explain to me the oo ahhh and mabe ill want one lol...

I also think the same of the micros. Why in the hell would someone pay 100 dollars for a smaller then dime size polyp. Duncans are nice but they look like pretty aiptasia to me. Not worth the price they are demanding on my end.

Because they are so poofy and pretty. My question is about SPS. They have no movement, no comparison in colors, they grow slowly and look like sticks yet everyone raves about the newst Caroliniana or tortuosa...what's the big deal?? They're just sticks!!

At least my LPS(micros, acans, etc) have motion and can sway in the water. At least they have tentacles, or feelers, that search for food. At least you can watch my micros and acans eat. What can you guys do with SPS?! Wacth time stand still?

I see you like SPS Jay...why? You obviously don't like LPS for some reason, but you'd be willing to pay $100 for a 1/2" colored stick...hell, I'd rather have $100 in pixie sticks.

It is always hilarious to me to hear an SPS guy talk down on another coral. SPS are the most fragile, no motion, for the most part bland, and it takes tireless effort to keep alive...my goal is not to keep the hardest thing in the ocean alive...my goal is to keep a tank alive.

And by the way shark...my acans are nowhere near half dead...in fact, the acans I have are in great health...and they look abvsolutely nothing at all like candy canes. Their growth, their patterns, their colors, their size, their shape...none look at all like caulastrea. what is your main interest?

I don't pay 100 for a 1/2 :) I only buy what I like regardless of the fad. And if it is a fad likek the purple monster, I pass. Why pay 150 dollars for an amazingly slow coral and at that, a half inch frag. I like SPS because of the variety of colors and how it reminds me of a full blown reef. I like some LPS that have colors and I generally put them in the front at the sand level.

I like mostly sps but i also keep a frogspawn and zoos in the tank. My questions were real not sacastic. Everytime i see those things the colors are drab and they just kinda look like some kinda ****y brain or somthing.

Not trying to insult just trying to figure out the love and the price they bring.

Not a problem...just stating my view on corals...I love my acans and they are extremely colorful and mobile. Jay, I agree, for the most part. I'm willing to pay a lot for something if it is the piece that I have been looking for specifically. At the same time, I'm a pricewatcher...I always search for the coral before I just go out and get it.

They bring the price because they are truely one of the coolest corals I've ever seen. I have 7 tanks, a few SPS, two tanks dedicated to softies, and an almost fully LPS reef. The LPS is far more interesting than any of the others and gets more compliments from people than any other tank. I've heard more from people on my acan patch and my duncan patch than my blue tort, awesome green acro, and all my other SPS combined.

I was just showing a couple really nice corals that FR had because if I wasn't on their mailing list or happening upon it, I wouldn't have seen these. These are some really nice acans for really decent prices.

hmmm i might pick one up just cause u say its cool lol... I allways thought they were a hard coral and just sat were you placed them kinda with no movement or anything.

They are a hard coral, but they puff up and sway in the water. It's not movement like a plate coral or an anem or anything. They are hardy and fast growers. Here are a couple pics of mine under vho(they brighten a lot under halides).

I really love that red one in back that curls up around the rock and during the day stays completely open to where you wouldn't even know it's an acan

Ah no worries. I meant no insult. They are nice don't get me wrong but just not my thing. I used to love softies but got tired of them. For example, I don't care for leathers anymore but used to like them. I think it is all a matter of preference.
