why does this red alge keep coming back?

I have a alge that is like a rusty red color that keeps growing and ill clean in off my rocks and sand each day, but when I get home from work its got another layer on it, Its been showing up since I set the tank up but latley its growing at a faster rate, I just want to make sure this is normal and if theres anything to slow the growth rate?

Is this a new tank? If so it's most likely diatoms which are normal with a new tank.

It will eventually go away, I had the red stuff for 6 months in my new tank and slowly disappear!

Does it look like a greasy mat or is it more a dusting of rusty brown?

its greasy on the glass but not on the rocks

Sounds like Cyanobacteria to me. And at that age, it's just a phase that your tank is going through. Just keep up proper husbandry and nutrient control and it will go away in a few weeks.

I actually just when through that cycle to and it would come back every day just as much or if not worse. I actually purchace some stuff called Chemi-clean. Did the recommended dose and after three days it was all gone then did a major water change and haven't had any issues yet and it has been almost 2 months.

Are you using RO/DI water as you should be and have you tested for phosphates both in the new water and in the tank?
