why is copper not recc. for use on tangs?

The damage to tangs from an appropriate dosage of copper has not been proven to the best of my knowledge. In my opinion, the imminent death from disease outweighs the potential for some later adverse reaction.

Many aquarist have successfully used cupramine with tangs .. if there is a legit problem with copper/tangs cupramine may minimize the issue.

Are tangs the only species affected? That way I know which species to avoid copper for any future ich outbreak (knock on wood)

Some angels don't really like copper either you would need to use the lowest dose if possible (i.e. Flame Angel). I believe the dose would have to be no more than .15 or something like that :rolleye1:

Cupramine is much less toxic and lots of "copper hypersensitive" fish, such as multicolor angels, do extremely well when treated with Cupramine. I haven't lost any of my angels after treating with Cupramine (flames, multicolor, potters, flagfin, goldflake, bluespot, regal, blueface, emperor, chrysurus, etc.) Also none of my wrasses or tangs.
