Why is my Acan loosing tissue?

I've had this particular acan about 2-3 years and have never had a problem with it. I did however just move my 38 gallon tank and all inhabitants into this new 40 breeder tank I have setup now. Everything else is doing very well. I first noticed this spot on my acan a few days ago and it appears to be getting bigger each day. I was thinking maybe it was brown jelly disease because I did see a little bit of brownish tissue where the coral tissue is missing. It may be hard to tell in the photo, but its the best I could really get of it without unmounting it from the rock it is on. I know if it is brown jelly I will need to cut the healthy coral away from the bad spot. But could it maybe be something else? I really don't want to loose this acan! Thanks for any help in advance.

Have you checked your parameters to make sure that something isn't out of line? I notice mine are sensitive to low Alk and low Magnesium. I have a large Derasa clam and a recent Maxima that are putting a strain on my parameters. Once corrected all of my Acan corals looked much better and some of my other LPS I thought looked fine were inflated even better than before.

Could it have possibly been stung by another coral during the move? Did something bump into it (like a rock during the move) and cause some damage to the flesh? It might have an infection now that could require intervention with a coral dip and/or fragging.

I have had some ups and downs with my Acan corals at times. I lost the first one I purchased for unknown reasons, it just kind of wasted away. It was growing like crazy right up to the point where it went downhill. Another frustrating part was that it looked nice and puffed up like yours until the last bits of it melted away. Dips/fragging did not help in my case. I even tried hydrogen peroxide dips which were successful in helping me save a wall hammer from brown jelly (I lost it about a year later for unknown reasons).

Hopefully others will have some insight since I'm not sure I offered anything you haven't thought of yet.

Parameters are pretty close to spot on. I did remove the acan and give it a good dip. I think it may have been caused by the move from one tank to another, but Im still not positive. Maybe it got stung while in the bucket with other corals. It could also be because it is closer to the light in the shallower 40 breeder tank. I'm still watching it closely. Thanks everyone.

so this is for my 36 g BF with 20g sump NO's-0 PO-0 NH-0 500/1480 CALMAG 8.3ph 1.025 normal traces. T5 Lights. two 30 inch so 4 lights total. It is a new tank and I have never had this much of an issue with a new setup, it is only a couple months old but I spent ALOT of time and money making it instant cycle... if you are asking how I got live sand from an LFS and a lot of LR and media from cycled tank for a DIY over hang drip filter system from my tank to my sump. So my LPS SPS and Softies are not fairing well in this tank! They act like copper toxicity poisoning, but there is NO copper! What else can be doing this, at this point I don't even know what to test for... any help greatly appreciated. Thanks! Matt and SHadoe

i religiously practice dipping when acclimating, and have a uv going doubt its bacterial/fungal and effecting everything... mostly immediate tissue necrosis and expelling of zoos.... dead in 24-48!

I want to say you either have to wait a little while or have a certain amount of posts to be able to create a thread. I could be completely wrong though. Maybe someone else can help you with this issue.

Here is the Acan as of today. It does appear that tissue loss may have stopped after the dip. I sure hope so and I'm keeping an eye on it. I now have this ugly bare skeleton section right in the middle of it. I hope if it recovers from this that new tissue will fill that spot. I did mount it a little lower down then where it was previously also. I still wonder what was the cause of this issue as I have never had this happen to any of my Acans.

Its been opening good at night and looking nice. I think the iodine dip did it. I used to always use coral rx but I'm out ATM. I still really wonder what caused it. Nothing came out during the dip except a little dead tissue.
