Why is my birdsnest dying? [pics]

I've had all my birdsnest sps die on me recently, and i'm not sure why. Now my biggest one looks like it's going too.

CA4 = 400
DKH = 80
NO3 0
PO4 Undetectable
Lighting = Actinic bulbs 9 hours, all 6 bulbs 5 hours
It's at the highest spot in the tank. The other birdsnest was at mid-level and it died too.
I run GFO and Carbon 24/7, skim wet, and have a medium bioload. I feed once a day pellets or Rods food.

Not enough light? Too much light? Not enough nutrients? The algae woudl certainly disagree.. I don't get it. :hmm5:

I have experienced problems with green birdsnest in the past. I took others advice and moved it to bottom of the tank with less light and good flow. It colored up. I think you should lower it.

hmm i just made a theard about my bird nest doing the same thing im about to try a water change but i don't have a clue why it did it out of no where

My guess would be flow or parameters swings. Flow plays a HUGE part in coral health and if you don't have a wavemaker style powerhead that is creating random flow its very important to position your corals just right so they are getting exactly what they need in terms of water flow.

+1

+1 on lowering it. I have mine on the bottom of the tank. I always had problems when it was higher up.

yea...meant 8.0 DKH :)

I will try lowering it although i'll have to snap it off the rock. Guess it can't really do that much worse.

I have a MP40 on the left side of the 90, and a Koralia 3 on the right pointed up for more surface disturbance. I know the flow could be better, but it's not bad.

when I bought this sucker it was actually blue :) Lost that color and now looks like i'm on my way to losing it all together. Oddly it did so well for so long on top of this rock. I wonder why suddenly now the lighting is too much.

whats your mag? very important parameter for coral. you need to know it.

I would add it to an increased flow area. I looks ill from the center where its receiving less flow. Just dont place directly infront of a powerhead, make the flow indirect.

well guys have you ever considered sometime else, IF everything seems fine, and NO pests are found and IT was doing fine in the same spot for a long time and PARAMS are great then the only two explanations i have are, a disease or it just wanted to die, when an acro dies in my tank and everything seems fine then i really dont look for an explantion because i aint going to find one, what i do is frag and reseed, that is the best advice given to me, good luck

Sana

Mag is between 1350 - 1600 at any given time. I does Kent Tech M, still have that habit from the good ol' bryopsis days.

I'll try breaking it off where it is, and placing it near my Vortech based on the above advise.

We'll see what kind of difference it makes.
