so im just wondering why my Rose BTA (now 2) tenticles always stringy instead of bulb tipped?
when i say stringy i mean long not all shrivled up.
Ive had this guy for 8 months now and he split the 3rd day after i got him. it was in a newer setup so i figured water parameters were differant and stressed it out.
moved 1 to my very stable 150g reef and it grew very large with 2 tomatoes hosting in it. sits right at the top of the reef 18" from a 400w radium. lower flow in that corner due to the nem. it split again the other day when i was adding a 4th halide to my tank. im assuming the extra light caused it to split again.
It always is very plump and colorful just that the thing looks like a red long tenticle condi.:hammer: my friend bought a real big rose from the LFS and put it in a 40B with a 250w radium 28" above the tank. (not sure why so high but its his fish room.) anyway the next day his was all fat and bulb tipped.
any ideas why there differant?
ive heard they get stringy when there light hungry? 400w radium not enough?
ive also heard they need to be fed more? i feed it once a week and whatever clowns feed it.
any ideas? thanks

They will get stringy if the are too far from the light (being on bottom of tank), as well as if they are hungry. Mine did that and I moved him up in the tank and he perked up after about 3 days. I know it will also happen if the pH is too high for them.

Nope, nope, and nope. No one really knows why they bubble or not in tanks. You'll get lots of speculation every time this question is asked, but no real documented answers.

It's no reflection on the health of the anemone, though, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ya I know its not overfeeding as it takes and eats the food everytime. I have had others spit it out when they are not hungry. Yes its hosted by a very large b&%ch of a tomatoe clown. She's very large and likes to chew on the ends of 1 of the nems. Usually the male is the one that in the nem almost 24/7. I guess I won't worry about it much I just like the look when the bubble up. I'm gonna have to try and remove one of the nems and put it in one of my other tanks for my pair of black & whites. Maybe it will look better?

There is pictures of them in the wild, half bubbled half not. The answer is still unknown. I have some in tanks where they are bubbled up others in tanks where they are not. I even have some in one tank that has ones with bulb tips and still others in the same tank/flow/lighting situation that are not bubbled at all.
