I had a sand sifting goby find my overflow into the sump. That was disappointing..... I am wondering if maybe one of the blue legged hermits killed the emerald crab. Not sure if they are enemies or not....
Are you sure you didn't find a molt?
A lot of reefers, myself included make this mistake. the 1st time a large crab molts on them they find thier shell and think it is the crab. You may just be supprised in a couple days to find him in there and bigger
