why might my zoas be closed up?

They were fine, then they closed. Been closed about 3 weeks.

Tank parameters all consistent, same and steady, and I change 10% weekly. flow is 2 opposing MP40s in a 4ft 90g, set to reef crest most of the time and i jack it up and down....as usual. zoas are not in a direct path.

I dont have other zoas, but I have a duncan, and several spa - all looking great and thriving as usual. All fish and inverts are great. No new additions of late to coincide with this issue.

One issue I did have is a temp spike up to 85 due to a fan bumming out. I dont recall if this was the exact time the zoas closed but it was close.

Here are some pics:

February - zoas doing fine, been in the tank for several months:

About 3 weeks ago - a couple peaking out (I've seen peeking as recent as a few days ago):

In the interest of more information....

I took a look after dark and noticed what look like webs attached from this rock to a neighboring rock?

Lights: 2x250 hqi, 3x54 actinic

Position, half way deep in the 2ft deep standard 90

Params ( i only mentioned "normal" ans "consistent" above): 0 nitrate, nitrite, phos, 7.8 ph, 7.5 dkh, 450 cal, 1500 mag, 1.025 sal, temp runs from 79 to 82.

Thanks

Looks like you have a few pests in there, looks like few hydroids in there and worms of some type, vermetid snails can cause the webbing they can be irritators too.

I glue the vermitids in their tombs... what's your MG? ph alk and current temp you run at? I know you say its good but what is it.

I think i do see some thin tentacles, and in the dark I saw a light brown bug cruising around...tiny thing. What can I do?

A dip never hurts, might find the problem that way. But ultimately I think you have a wild colony there, and this is sort of what happens with some wild colonies when we put them in our tanks.

Is using Revive just as effective as an iodine dip?

i just looked with a flashlight and there were lots of flea-sized bugs scampering all over them. I've never dipped anything before so what is a recommended item to buy? FWIW this rock came from live aquaria. also, is it possible they are dead and I should just remove the rock?

I use Revive as well, good stuff.

Sounds like pods, pretty normal. A dip won't hurt, give it a shot see what else comes out of the rock.
