Why not just observation for QT fish?

The last fish I put in my tank was a Blue Tang. I quarantined with copper for 6 weeks and observed copper free for 2 more weeks. The fish was healthy eating like a hog and showed no signs of disease. I added him to the DT and the next day boom he had ich. I am 100% positive ich was not in my system beforehand. I think from now on I am just using quarantine to fatten future fish up and get them healthy rather than worrying about every disease that's out there.

Its just too time consuming when proper diet and a stress free environment can keep a fish from getting sick.

Oh and by the way the Blue is doing great fat as a hog and no signs of ich after the first outbreak. No other fish showed signs of the parasite.

Is this because it makes it easier to treat the tank if no corals are present, or some other reason? Or just that you don't want the maintenance of corals regardless of the diseases?

A little bit of both but mostly for the first reason. You also have to factor that you also risk bringing in more disease every time you introduce a new coral without QT it.

I don't quarantine either it is way too time consuming and I am lazy lol... the thing is that you would have to quarantine everything that comes in to the tank not only fish and I mean EVERYTHING if you are hoping for a 99.9 % disease free tank and even then I bet you that some how disease will find its way in... and I agree you either treat all the fish as they were sick or you are really not doing much, just because we observe the fish for 4 weeks doesn't mean they are disease free.
I completely agree good water quality, stability, good diet , stress free (as much as we can) environment ... it is all I try to do and keep your hands off the tank as much as possible lol.... and all my fish are happy, yes I have ich in the tank and I get and outbreak every once in a while and I only lost one fish so far, yes it sucks but that is life ... it is not like we are doing these fish any favors by pulling them out of the ocean and having them in our tanks anyways.
