Why Picos?

If you treat these smaller tanks like you would with a larger nano tank, you can easily have good success with them and it's just as fulfilling. I have mine right on my desk so I'm always able to watch and monitor it. If you look over at nano reef you can find a lot of nice ones in the pico section.

Don't know if my 5.5 would qualify as a pico tank but it's the easiest/cheapest tank I've ever had. Two power plugs, one for lights and one for flow. This tank is almost three years old and has never had any problems (OK, I did have to zap a couple of aiptasia with kalk a couple of years ago).

However I would never recommend a nano/pico tank to a novice aquarist.

also i would like to add that my pom pom is carrying a batch of eggs in that tank.

Mine is also.:)

I personally started out with a 55 gallon and have continuously "down graded" to smaller tanks. I personally find that the things I enjoy in a reef are the really tiny things and these can only be seen well in a small tank. When I look at these huge 300 gallon reefs, I'm amazed at the beauty and complexity of them; but can't focus on the small life that is sure to teeming in such a large system.
My last tank was a 10 gallon and I've decided that this was too small for my needs. At this point I'm working on a 25ish system (build thread coming once I find the aquarium I want at the price I want). I've found that, for me, its a good happy medium for stability vs. seeing the small life. At some point I'll probably work on a pico to satisfy my DIY bug, but I doubt it will be a long term system. Once I'm satisfied with it, I'll probably return its inhabitants to my larger system. Who knows what the future holds.

don't take this the wrong way, but it seems to me like you haven't taken the time to really look in to picos. From what i have read in this thread shows me that you have never tried an attempt to even build one so why start questioning methods that do work if done right?

+1 to everything you said
