Well, I stupidly routed my skimmer to a pretzel jar and low and behold, it overflowed while I was at work. It may not look like it, but there's about 50g in the floor.

Yay for shop vacs.

Should have the skimmer overflow back into the tank, worst case scenario the skimmate goes back into the water column.

I too have come home to this. Only difference was my wife was home getting soaked in saltwater trying to stop the overflow and I was rushing home from work to a flooded living room and a not so happy wife :uhoh2:

I've been looking at those since that last thread, but I have no idea where to get it. The link says that they only sell to distributors.

The livestock looks ok, the SG went down to 1.019. I filed the sump to the top with water of the same SG, and I'm just going to let it evaporate and slowly raise the SG back to normal.

I think the way I'm going to do the locker is to use a 5G bucket and a float valve.

Ehhhh....I wonder how strong those magnets are if it will work with a Rubbermaid stock tank.

I am planning a mason jar in my sump next to my skimmer, will silicone it down. put a plastic bag inside to easily remove skim overflow, the if it overflows it will go into my sump, but still gives me collection abilities.

And that is the primary reason I decided on a in-sump skimmer - not if, but when it overflows, no harm, no foul, and no ****ED OFF WIFE!!!!!

I still don't get it even a HOB or out of sump inline skimmer has an overflow tube that can be ran back into your sump. Why not just do that??? I assume you had that going to some kind of container that overflowed?

I would much rather the skimmate go back into the tank than on my floor.

For what its worth I had my skimmer overflow but only had about a gal of water on the floor which ****ed me off enough to return the overflow to the sump.

Just my $0.02 cents.

Got my unit directly from the web site. I just installed it last week, but so far it's worked well both times the cup has filled up it has turned off the skimmer exactly like it's supposed to.

I was thinking of eventual putting an extra tank for my skimmer but I definitely have to remember to put an overflow of some sort.
