Why the long skinny mushroom stalk?

I have these mushrooms and for the last month or so they have been laying over and their stalk/base has been getting skinny. Originally I had two heads that split and then had four which I moved around in the tank and none of them have stood up for about 4 weeks. All of the other softies in the tank are doing fine. I have bben running carbon for about that long. Any chance that could have had some effect?

usually if they have a long stalk it means they want more light.

Good point! What do you have for lighting?
