why won't my clowns play in there nem?

just curious as to why my trank raised mocha clowns don't want anything to do with my RBTA?

tank specs

bc 8 led retro
salt 1.026
temp 77
weekly water changes
mp 10 mini jet 606 return set at half
in tank media basket..chemipure elite/purigen/filter floss
aquavitro salinty salt

other tank inhabitants
1 sexy shrimp
pom pom crab
random hermits
2 astrea snails
zebra nerite
few dwarf nasarius
dwarf cerith
yasha goby and candy cane pistol shrimp
small purple golden coral banded shrimp

just because you have a anemone does not mean they will use it, I have 2 anemones and the clowns won't go near either of them, they prefer the sand or torch coral. it is just a gamble

If I buy another clown that already is being hosted by a Nem and put it in the tank will the other clown follow suit, then take the other clown out later?

there is no guarentees, it is all up to the clown. I have seen other people try what you are thinking and still no luck.

If you get the clowns natural host then you are almost guaranteed to have the anemone host the clowns. If not it is a gamble. I'm assuming by "mocha" clowns (did you get them at Starbucks? Names are getting ridiculous!) you mean B/W A. ocellaris or some other A. ocellaris variant. The RBTA is not their natural host and there is a chance that they may never diver in.

That being said I have a pair of ORA Snowflake Ocellaris and the male dove into my new RBTA within 1 minute of me placing it in the tank. So you never know, it can happen fast, slow, or never.

+1 on skullv it might happen or it might not. i have ocellaris and a RBTA that i recently added and they dont go near the nem. im hoping that over time they will go in.....

Took my clowns over a year to host anything, one hosts the anem and the other likes the hairy mushrooms.

I completely agree with SkullV as far as the key being to provide a natural host/clownfish combination. Then pairing is quick if not immediate, and I've personally observed this numerous times over the years.

As several others have said, there is no guarantee they will host in your rbta. I had a bta that my ocellaris didnt seem interested in for awhile too. I started squirting my food into the nem so he almost had to go into the nem to eat and a day or two later....hosting!

what clownfish host the RBTA normally.

RBTAs host (not the other way around, though that mistake is made so often it's practically acceptable usage) tomato clowns, maroons, clarkii, and cinnamon clowns, among other less commonly seen species in the trade.

If you want something that will dive right into the RBTA a Maroon or Clarkii will be in it within an hour. Captive bred or wild caught, either way.

the term "mocha clown" is what the guy at my LFS called em and i do believe ther are an B/w ocellaris and A. ocellaris offspring. that would be kinda cool tho if they had them at a drive up window and you could order them off a menu of new arrivals lol. I"ve had tehm for 2 weeks now so i guess only time will tell if if they dive into the nem or not

i will try this method tomorrow morning and repeat over the next week to try and bribe them to have the rbta host them .

This might work, but I wouldn't do it. Luring a fish into your anemone when it's not prepared could end badly. Just be a little patient. Mine took a year to find their BTA, but others report it not taking so long. It may be that the fish need to grow up a little and bond before they take to the available anemone.

Try taping pictures of clowns in anemones to the outside of the tank. They will see and mimic. Usually works within hours.

Actually it hasn't been. There is no way to prove that it was the cause of the clowns being hosted, since you can't have a "control".
