I have a royal gramma, yellow watchman and a cleaner shrimp. I switched my mj600 for a mj1200 for more flow. Since I did this the gramma hides in the rocks and won't come out. When I turned the powerhead off he is back to his usual self. The mj1200 states 295gph which would only be a turnover of 10x. Why would this happen???

Could be that it's a little noisier than the 600. Could be the extra flow. Either way, his environment has changed. Give him a couple days to get used to it.

I run 40x turnover and my royal gamma is out all the time. Just give him sometime and he will get used to it or try aiming it in a different direction.

Hard to say---could be he's tired from swimming against the current, could be there's a vibration freaking him out, something affecting his lateral line. You might try running the old pump much of the time and then running the new one a couple of hours and seeing if he can get used to it.

you might want to also try to have a sheltered spot they he can get to without being blasted by the powerhead so he can rest if he wishes
