widower ocellaris male

Just sharing my woes for today.. my happy breeding pair of Ocellaris have been reduced to one grieving(?) widower male. The female was a super fat healthy gal and passed last night in her sleep after an 11 day illness. They are ~7 years old.

I intend to get a small juvenile to pair the male up with. The male is currently sitting in QT as he was with the female being treated. He is healthy, but I'll finish up the course of meds for good measure.

I won't rush into getting him a friend just yet. Course of meds, put him back in the display... and then I'll get and quarantine the new juvi for the usual run before trying to pair them up. Never good to rush and potentially bring a new fish in with potential new problems.

pics of the little guy... best I could do with a cell phone.

Looked like an internal infection. I suspect a secondary to another problem. I treated with prazi-pro and she died during maracyn-2 treatment. I adopted the pair from a friend, so personally haven't had them for 7 years.

I didn't get any sense of distress from her at all though. She was calm, breathing normally with her partner by her side. She just took the treatments, occasionally showed some interest in food (but didn't eat), and still managed to come 'see me' when I visited the QT.

I was considering the clove oil euthanasia option, but didn't go through with it. If she was distressed I would have.
