Hey guys and gals,

My friends have a store and i got them to order me in a mystery wrasse...when the shipment came in we unpacked everything and i set my amazing mystery wrasse aside. This was on friday july 2nd. Now its in been in the tank and is petrified of everything. Anyone walks by the tank it darts into the holes in the rock work and wont come up but if nobody is walking around he will come out but not fully swimming around. He is the only fish in the tank. He is eating. He did jump the next day july 3rd, but i caught him like i dunno how much longer but was still wet and cats were freaking out.

Could it just be scared from a) the jump, and b) being in the new tank.
Should i leave the lights out until he gets more comfortable?

thanks everyone!

I picked up one last thursday, and mine is scared of his own shadow as well. He hides in the rocks pretty much all day except when he comes out to eat a little.

24g aquapod for now and will go to my 75 yes its a small tank but he onlt 1.5" at best and still fully juvy colors. its been setup for 4-6 months after i tore it down and restarted it after a ridiculous macroalgae problem.

Salinity 1.025
Ph 8.0
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10

now as im writting this i have my reefbrite led strip (actinic) and it was swimming with my daughter jumping around well close to the tank so maybe he doesnt like the halide? 250w 14k phoenix bulb on it?

mine took about 6 months before he became brave enough to stay out all the time when i was near the tank. Mine still runs from the cleaner shrimp if he trys to catch him and they have been together almost 2 years. MIne is now about 4 to 5 inches.

MIne has been a beast since Day 1. I have him 4 years now and he eats out of my hand. My favorite fish by far.

Well established ones are little fish with bruiser attitudes, in a good way. Give it time, and make sure potential stressors (water quality, tankmates, cover, etc.) are minimized.

yeah theres nobody in the tank i just tried to feed him something different (nutramar ova) and stepped up his response a bit. I want him to be an aggresive freak but i am gonna get him a friend to play with probably yasha/candy pistol

hopefully he gets rowdy and becomes a bigger swimmer

mystery wrasses are extremely hardy fish. I had a huge emergency and left town without anyone watching my tank for 6 months. My mystery wrasse survived without eating 1 time and the water changes were never. He was shy at first but now he swims around everywhere and is huge, looks like his belly is about to explode. I think he will be fine.
