I have a 75 gal which i would like to take in the direction of a reef.

the lighting i have for it is a Marineland T5 48" Deluxe HO fixture.
-4 bubs(factory comes with two daylight two actinic)
-i changed them to be two daylight (factory), 1X18k, 1xactinic.
-1 reflector(i know many say its crap)

i also have two hagens 24" T5HO actinics on either side.

i was told this light would be next to crap when it came to keeping more than some mushrooms, zoas and other soft corals.

HERES the INTERESTING DISCOVERY.
and i found this on youtube so bare with me.
its someones 75 gal tank with the SAME marineland fixture and nothing else not modified.
take a look.

i messaged him saying i dont believe that he has those under the same fixture i was told by many its crap...

he replied...with

"there's 4x54 watt HO T5's. 2x true blue actinic, 1x 10k , 1x 18 k. Its more than enough light. I've had to move corals down even from too much."

someone tell me what they think becuase if this fixture is good enough for that kind of a tank then i dont need to spend MORE money on lighting

I would say thats just fine on a 75g. If you retrofit a 3m reflector (ordered from their website...about 12 bucks a piece) those reflectors are incredible from what I hear. I wouldnt buy more lighting yet. I would give those a shot.

from the marineland website?

they come that cheap??

someone told me i should get icecaps and they clip on but they run 24$ pop plus shipping which would be a 100$ plus new bulbs is 200...id rather get another fixture the same size and run 8 bulbs t5ho :)

but if you say those are only 12 and fit inside then ill give them a go.

oh also are they hard to fit in? do you know? ive previously taken the fixture apart but ive never retrofited anyting. would they fit in the case or would i have to ditch it and install the fixture on a piece of board.

3m also makes air filters

I havent used it yet but was told that its actually much better than stated by the company. Ice cap does have a good product though. You are looking at 4-5 times the cost though (from what I hear)

i wondewr if anyone else sells cheap t5 reflectors that are atleast decent...i mean its a nicely bent piece of sheet metal.....come on its not like its god plated and comes with a tv and dinner:)

well the initial question was wether or not this youtube guy was pulling my chain...wether or not you could see a reef like that living under the light him and i have the same of.

probably telling you the truth. honestly there isn't anything in there that requires a lot of light ( minus the clam and anemone )

The clam: Its either a gigas clam ( which doesnt need much light at all they just get huge) or squamossa. possiblly derasa.

Anemone: Bubble tips don't need more than four T5HO above them to thrive would except more im sure though.

Yes that is a marineland fixture but i dont think it looks like that in person. On the video the camera kept trying to adjust the white balance of the camera automaticlly. I don't think the colours look exactly like that in person. close but not as blue i suspect ( you can tell on the regal at the top who keeps going from blue to glowing and back again.
