So I will be purchasing a 300g setup which includes 300g acrylic tank with overflows on the sides of the tank. Dimensions of tank 80 L x 36 w x 24 h. I will be getting a 60g + sump, a pump, uv sterilizer, metal haliod light stand and canopy. 50 lbs live rock and 140lbs live sand. Logistics will be moving tank approx. 70 miles to my new town home if we close. I currently have a 29g tank with a porcupine puffer and a yellow damsel. I also have a 10g with a long horn cow fish and a coral banded shrimp. The large tank will be for the porcupine puffer and the cow fish and possibly the damsel. Still trying to figure out what else to stock. I plan on documenting the whole process from start to finish for all those reef O' files and for me. I hope to be picking up the tank in the next couple of weeks and i am debating on what to do either set it up immediatly or take my time and set it up slowly. If you have any advice on possible stocking or moving tips i would love to hear them. I also plan on taking lots of pictures of the whole process.

Crossing my fingers and holding my breath

So i believe i have decided to not try and transport the tank and the 300g of water. The logistics of trying to move that much water that distance is to costly also I just found out that i may be going out of town for a few months and so i will drain the tank if and save 40lbs of the argonite and the live rock in containers with water and possibly set up a system to keep flow on them and do water changes to keep it all alive. i will let the other argonite dry out and just wash it out really well before re-using it.

thanks for the posts and again feel free to offer advice

May as well replace the sand now. IIRC, once phosphates bond to the sand, theres no real way of getting them off. You dont want em to leach back into the water or onto the rock. Id use maybe 5-10 lbs of it just to see the new sand.

Sounds like a cool build. And since it loooks like you are going FOWLR, Id get a hummu hummu or picasso trigger. Those guys are awesome looking fish.

.... and welcome.

Welcome to reef central and good luck with your new tank. I have to tell you have big courage to step up from 29 to 300 gallons.
Again good luck

So it looks like i will be picking up my tank this sunday. hoping it all goes well I wont be setting it up right away. I want to take my time so i can plumb it properly and maybe add a refugium.

IME refugium will add lot's of benefits to your system. Lots of pods will live there and it's excellent way to export of nutrition's.

That puffer looks like a fat little dog being scratched! :)

And FWIW, I am big fan of fuges too. Not so much for neutrient transport but for the nutritional value. Certainly, the additional live rock and growing and export of macros are a positive filtering and neutrient removal effect.

Well im sorry to say i wasnt able to get all the photos of the move. When i arrived the tank had already been dismantled and set in the garage for pick up. So half the work was done we loaded it up and moved it into the new town home. Since i sign the paper work tomorrow its still not my town home. Im sure the little lady is thrilled that the first new piece of furniture is a 300g fish tank. Oh well she has to love me i think its in the vows somewhere. well with out further ado here she is and all the little extras i got with it.
