Wild caught False Percs & RBTA

I have 2 of these I bought back in Jan. They were rather small and still are. Seem to be buddies..maybe a pair.

I just aquired a RBTA split from my buddy, abouit 5" when opened. Been in my tank for about 2 days now.

What is the chance these will take to the anemone? How long usually? They seem to have no interest in it yet.

I have read of pictures of clownfish in anemonees' to persuad the clownfish to host? BS or can work??

Thanks,

I haven't seen the picture method working really. Do they have a favorite coral or spot they are in always? If so you may pursuade by moving that closer to the nem. How long has it been? It usually takes a little bit of time atleast for them to become interested in the nem, it normally happens over time always. Also happens quicker when other fish are in the tank as they like the shelter

It's only been 2 days. They seem to swimm rather freely around the tank. They tand to sleep in the front bottom corner together. They haven't messed with any other coral.

The tank is a 250g with:
2 flase percs,
5 blue green chromis,
4 lyretail anthias,
yellow tang,
naso tang,
regal tang
coral beauty angel,
firfish goby....

so a pretty moderate to light fish stock.

they need to build up a protective slime coat before they'll take to the anemone. They get that by rubbing against it every now and then. They are also a bit finicky about the health of the anemone. If it's not healthy then they don't see it as a safe, protective place and won't bother with it. A new anemone will take time to adjust to the tank and might not appear healthy to the clowns for quite a while. That said, my perculas began hosting in the ritteri that I put in there almost before I could take it out of the bag.

Good info....

But the anemone looks very happy & healthy already. Local pick up and not shipping im sure made it transition very quick!

The pic thing is BS. If the clowns did see the fish in the picture as real fish, they wouldn't play monkey see, monkey do. They would most likely attack it. You might as well put a picture of a horse on the side of the tank. It would have the same effect.

Just give the clowns time. They will most likely move into the BTA at some point. It may take quite a long time though. BTA is not their natural host like magnifica is.

I have heard of the picture thing too, and always thought it sounds ridiculous, but people have reported it working. But who's to say it was the picture that caused it and that the clowns wouldn't have gone to the nem at that time even if the pic wasn't there.

If the picture does have some sort of effect, I would think it would have more to do with the clowns either feeling threaten by the ones in the pic and need a safe place from them, or feeling like they better take up the vacant anemone before those other clowns do. Both seem more feasible than them seeing it as a demonstration on what they are supposed to do.

As for me, neither of false percs have shown any interest in my RBTA after 7 days now. Who knows, one day everyone my laugh at me if I end up having a picture taped the glass if I start getting desperate. :D
