Life has kept me busy the past few months but I wanted to share something I had happen in my tank back just before Thanksgiving. One of my BTAs (My beautiful green base/pink tentacle) had been wandering around the tank for a few days, wasn't too worried because it was mostly doing laps through the same pile of rock along the same path. Well one day as I was getting ready to take my wife to the doctor, I noticed it had moved itself up along the back wall, I wasn't too worried as it was between the powerhead and the overflow box, and the appointment wasn't suppose to take too long. Four hours later we got home and it was MIA, no sign what so ever. At first I wasn't too worried, it's usual trek would take it though the rockwork and up the backside to the top, then back down to the bottom. But this time something didn't feel right, my gut was telling me something was wrong.
Low and behold I go to peek into my sump, and find a very tattered looking BTA being blown around by the output of my skimmer. It literally looked like it had been torn in two! After a bit of work I managed to rescue it and placed it in a coffee mug inside my DT. About this time I look in my DT, and find the other half free floating around in the currents. Another coffee mug later both were resting inside and at this point I started setting up my hospital tank. The next morning both had escaped their mugs and vanished into my rockwork. I was sure they were both goners with the way they looked when I put them back into the DT. Low and behold a few days later both are up top of the rocks and looking ten times better. Both recovered ok, and one even split again a few weeks later leaving me with one the size of a fifty cent piece, and two the size of a quarter.
Fast forward to today, all three are still going, the bigger one hangs out in one spot, only moving into the rocks when the lights go out. One of the little ones wanders about, usually hiding somewhere in the rocks, and the third has parked itself underneath the rock my toadstool is and hasn't moved since. Resilient lil buggers I tell yah!
