will a bta move over sand?

I have a little island setup for my bta and was wondering if they will go across the sand to get to the rest of the rock?

They'll move anywhere in the tank, and fairly unpredictably. After awhile, they often find a place to settle, but will move at any time.

I understand they can and will move at any time to find a spot they are happy with. I just wasn't sure if they would cross the sand seeing how they like the rocks to plant their foot.

BTA's don't like sand from my experience. But can wander over rock fairly quickly in a period of a day.

Well he crawled off the rock last night, right into the powerhead. I know you are supposed to cover them, but I didn't think it could get into my seio's. They only have little slits around the side. It did all this in about 3 hours. I am not sure if it crawled up to it that fast or I am kind of thinking it let go of the rock and got sucked in. Oh well, lesson learned.

That's what happened to my first BTA back in the day before I knew any better. My girlfriend called me at work and I didn't believe her. But when I got home I saw the horror of it all. They can detach and float. And guess where they will float to?

It being pulled into a SEIO won't always kill them, I had that happen to an LTA before and it made a full recovery.

I dont think they like sand. Mine use to just let go of the rock it was on if it was surounded by sand, and float around the tank in stead of walking on the sand. It ended up in my Vortech a few times.

When I had a tank with cc in it. The anemone would walk all over the cc.
