hey everyone
I'm looking at getting a ritteri anemone and was wanting to check my tank had sufficient lighting in my tank. The tank is a 4 ft long, 20" high 75 gal. I have 4x T8 light fittings with 2 blue, 1 sunlight (15k) and 1 tropical bulb (40w 4 ft fluros, aqua one brand) The powerhead in the picture is 660 gph flow rate

I was thinking of placing it on top of this rock stack where there is high flow and lighting (see attached pics)

I dont want to get one and end up killing it.

Tank Conditions (API test kits & Digital Probe thermometer)
Salinity 35ppt
82 deg F
0 ammonia
0 nitrite
less then 0.5 nitrate
8.0 pH

I have test kits on order for alk, cal, mag and kh on order.

thanks,
Jason

probably not unfortunately. It seems as though quality Ritteri are becoming harder to find and they can be tough to keep. They need a lot of flow and a lot of light, I have only had luck keeping them under 250w hqi. I be interested in hearing what lighting other people have kept them under.

best wishes

I wouldn't try to keep a magnifica under T-8s for sure. They need intense lighting such as MH or T-5s. I currently have 3 under T-5s and they seem to do very well under this lighting. I've also kept them under MH before, which is a good choice. I'm sure that some people are keeping them under LEDs now. If they were under VHOs and in the top foot of the tank, I expect that would work, too, but I can't say. I haven't done that personally.

Other than a lack of proper lighting, I think you are pointed in the correct direction with your tank. You will want your tank to be up and running stable for at least 6 months before adding a mag.

I also think your tank is kinda new and not stable yet. Lighting may not be bright enough In your case the width is most important. It the anemone touch the side, it will most likely climb up the sice of the tank. I keep a tiny Magnifica in a 20 g tank briefly before than change him to a 20X20X18 cube which is the minimal size for a Magnifica (20X20) area.
