Will be in STL in 2 weeks, what reef shops should I visit?

Will be working about 10 miles west of St Louis on the 18th and 19th of this month. What shops in the metro area are worth checking out? Are there any shops with a large selection of corals?

Does anyone know what the rules are if I wanted to buy something and take it with me on the plane?

Thanks

I'd visit them all if you have the time, because you never know.
As far as the corals and livestock on a plane, I'd be extremely careful. Bags of chips will pop open due to cabin pressure changes, I'd hate to see that happen to fish and corals. I know that many corals and fish are flown in, so I would check into their packaging for shipment and see how it is done. Anything without a pressure relief of some sort is dangerous.

As long as the stuff fits either in the overhead or under your seat, and can be inspected, the airlines won't have a problem with it. Again just be careful packaging it for transport

Isn't there some kind on liquid rule now? Before you could take them with you no prob. but,,,

We can only hope that someone at the airport would realize that animals just don't do well in liquid explosives!:D

Mostly looking for SPS.

I took a Red Sea Mimic Blenny on a plane last year on my way home from Atlanta, didn't have a problem, but that was before the liquid scare...

All stores receive livestock shipments by air cargo, so as long as it is checked luggage and in the cargo hold there should be no problems. I doubt with the strict regulations now that you would be able to carry on any livestock.

Problem is Chad the weather. With winter here I'd be worried if it was in an unheated cargo. Not all cargo bays are heated and most airlines require some sort of notice when shipping animals that require certain precautions.

Didn't know if it would be the same for corals, since they will be packaged and boxed tightly.

flying from st louis to pittsburg in a cooler with a heat pack will be more than fine

it doesnt matter what it is, animal or not, you can not have more than 3 ounces of ANY fluid or gel unless you buy it after the security checkpoint, which a coral, obviously doesnt apply to

I would jsut get a styrofoam cooler, load it up with stuff (even put some warm water bags in there if you dont want to use heat packs) and it'll be just fine on the plane in the checked bin........just double or triple bag it since the baggage handlers can be rough

Yep. Heat packs do the trick. No need for hot water bags or any of that stuff, just strofoam lined box and heat packs. I shipped livestock to area's that were 10 deg. and with no problems when using heat packs. Not highly recommended, but it worked.

Your other option may be to just take the cooler to fedex and have it shipped. Do it right be fore you leave and then it will get there the day after you get home and you wouldn't have to deal with carrying it with you while you are dealing with your luggage.
