will bristle worms eat your clams

I have bristle worms in my nano. They never bothered me because I think they are the harmless kind. However I've heard that they will eat your clams. Is this true?

Only if the clam is dying or already dead. They'll leave healthy clams alone. I'm not sure if fireworms pose a threat, though.
