Will Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II good for full tank shot ?

I have a Canon DSLR and I am considering purchase a Canon lens(EF 50mm f/1.8 II) for full tank shot, I think the photo quality of prime lens will be better than zoom lens, although Canon 50mm f/1.8 II is cheap, is it good for full tank shot? or I should get better lens (such as 50mm/1.4) ?

Now I have 100mm/f2.8 macro, 70-200mm/f4.0L and a 17-85mm, but I am not satisfied with the quality of photo taken by two zoom lens, and the 100mm/f2.8 macro is not suited for full tank shot.

Thanks.

How wide is your tank?

I'm asking because I just picked up a 50mm f/1.8 and except for having to stand 10 feet away, I was pretty happy with the results on a six foot tank.

How far can you back up?
If you already have the Rebel, I am assuming you already have the kit lens. Put the kit lens on your camera and set the focal length to 50mm. Now try to take a full tank shot and you know EXACTLY what it will be like! The 50mm f/1.8 would do a better job than the kit lens but as far as getting a full tank in a full tank shot everything should be the same.
