Will Clown fish lay eggs if they have tank mates

Mine are in my reef. Just harvested my first fry last night. It'd probably be easier to harvest if they were in a tank by themselves, though... I had a cleaner shrimp coming up to take advantage. I kept having to 'shew' him away, but that wasn't a huge deal. I was pleasantly surprised that some of the other fish were not feasting.

Just make sure the clowns are comfortable. That means a sleep number mattress, soft music, and the thermostat set to 70. Kidding. I've found that if clowns have a nem that's hosting them, they tend to breed. I'm assuming it's because their comfortable. That said, you don't need a nem, since clowns use many things as a host, including flower pots, which many people use in their broodstock tanks.

My clowns are in my 75 gal with 9 other fish and spawn every 10 days like clock work. I agree though that they need to feel safe and comfortable.

I had a pair of clowns for almost 3 years in my mixed reef and they never laid eggs.

Tankmates are Royal Gramma, Orchid Dottyback, Hawkfish, Kole Tang, several gobies, misc inverts.

The clowns have their living area in a back corner of the tank that is shaded and somewhat bare. About a month ago I was at a LFS and saw a fake anemone. I figured I would throw it in so that they could have a little home instead of bare rock.

Boom, yesterday they laid the first eggs ever!

So if you have an area they live, but not anything they are living in give a fake anemone a shot.

If you would like them spawn , lighting must be on timer , feed them high protein for higher egg counts , and parameters in check and don't move the scenery around , I have found this to work well .
