will clowns always host?

I just got a bta. I have 2 clowns and was wondering if they will host the anemone. The female is pretty big about 4 inches and they have never had an anemone in the tank with them (as far as I know). Does anyone know if they will host and how long it may tank?

clowns dont host...anemones host..:p

i have heard that a picture of nems hosting a clown will help the clowns in your tank figure out what they are supposed to do..

My ocellaris only use sand, rocks, and algae as a host. I have had them for over a year and they still show no interest in anemones. You might have better luck. Are your ocellaris wild caught or tank raised? Wild caught, they might take to your bta..if tank raised you might end up with a pair like mine. I still love mine even though they don't want an anemone.

Anemones do the hosting, and no clowns will not always go to them. If they do decide to go "host" in the anemone it can be quick or take along time. I have two Ocellaris with a GBTA (6 + months) and one thought about it for a second, then when tback to the frogspawn thats hosting them.

I have heard that about the pic thing also but have nver tried it.

Not always. Some clowns like ocellaris and percula are more prone to in just about anything, but some will not. I have heard that it can be a common thing with captive bred clowns as well. All in all, it is worth a try but do freak if they choose not to go to the anenome.

What you can try to do is, put the clowns in a confined area for a night with the anemone.... thats what did the trick for me. An intank refugium would do the trick.
