I have successfully done it. However I believe it contains a couple different types of phyto and some may die. It may not be a long term thing but will work in a pinch. I was able to split it a couple of times but not many before it crashed.

I heard you get three splits from DT's, then it crashes. I also tried Phyto2. I did about five splits and then crashed. It's very pure, no floating chunks in the culture. Hey Jack, try to get Phyto2 at your LFS. Ali (amazing aquariums & reefs ) sells it, but it's a drive for you.
