Will Flame Hawk and Long Nose Hawk fight?

As a pair, do they stay closely together?

In terms of pairing, are hawks like angels and clowns - get a very small one and a medium sized one and they'll switch gender and pair up? Or do they need to be bought as a pair?

I kept a Flame and a Longnose together in a 180 gallon fowler with about 250 lb. of rock and they were fine but the Flame was clearly the dominant fish taking the higher perches. Their limited chasing seemed more for show than anything and never looked serious. With that said, you never know. If I were to do it again, I would go with a pair of Flames (my preferred species) to watch their interactions.

I bought a flame hawk a couple weeks ago. I like watching him/her bounce around. Reminds me of a paranoid person. Run, stop, look around to see if anyone is watching, then do it again.

I like the long nose as well. I too wondered if they would fight. I might add one soon with a pair of clowns.

I would actually prefer a pair of flames but wondering how to pair them up?

DD has bonded pairs occasionally. They are captured together, so its assumed they're a pair. Not all "bonded" pairs stay bonded during shipping and acclimation, most do, though. Same with any fish sold as a bonded pair.

Matt, you should be able to pair up a small individual with a larger individual. They are hermaphrodites, but I don't remember if they are like clowns (larger one being female, smaller being male) or like wrasses or psuedochromids (larger being male, smaller being female).

Yeah, but he's not in the US.

Lol, yes I know. My point is that the OP can't order from either, since he's in a different country.

Yeah, I was sitting outside and it hit me.....I may really be as dumb as I look. But we really should just annex Canada, nice people there and lots of great bonspiels.

i have a longnose and flame in a 29g with no fighting at all. the flame perches all over the place. the longnose prefers two spots, one of which is a patch of GSP in the center of the tank.
