Will it hold or not!

I really need people to tell me what they think about my problem!

I have a new 180 gal. that has not had anything put in it yet, but here is the problem. I noticed while cleaning the glass that the plastic rim around the top and the bottom of the tank has a crack in them. The cracks are about 1/8th inch from the corners on the right and left side of the tank. Only on 1 side of the bottom front. I thought about just replacing the rims, if possible, or maybe I don't want to bother with replacing them at all. Yes the tank is warranted, but if it doesn't affect the integrity of the tank, it would be easier to just keep it the way it is as long as it won't cause a problem. Yes the braces across the tank are intact. I contacted the company which the tank was made from and they told me that the rims could not just be replaced because they were mietered and have to be brought back to the shop to repair. The company thought that it happened while it was shipped. Here is also my other concern, the company says they of course will replace the tank with a new one but I have to return it to the store that I got it from and they will deal with them on the replacement. Sounds great but the store is closed until further notice because the owner had gotten really sick and at this point don't know if they will ever reopen. So, company says that I need to find someone who deals with this company because they don't deal directly with the public.
Now will these cracks affect the tank integrity or does it really need replaced? If so, anyone got any ideas how I can do this?:o

Edit: its not really the point that if it will hold or not you payed for the tank to be built and delivered right. not with a crack in the bracing.

With the tank being under warranty if should not matter that the store is closed exc.. The manufactures are the ones that cover the warranty not the retail shop that sold you the tank. I would call back and speech with someone that is a manager of the company.

Agreed

Agreed

I am totally in agreement with you. When the company was contacted I was told that only 2 people deal with this kind of thing and she was one of them, gave me her name and personal office number, and told me that the tank should have never gotten all the way to my home. It should have been inspected at the shop when the packing was removed. Agree, but just like I told her, you could not see this when you just looked at the tank. I only found it when my paper towel kept getting caught on the crack. Since the rim is black, it is very hard to see yet I can almost put my fingernail in the crack. Of course she didn't offer where else to take the tank but wanted me to find a dealer close to me, shouldn't she have known who that might have been? And then she said that maybe someone else would be willing to take the tank from me, as though it was going to cost someone, and I should give them her name and number and she would deal directly with them. Something is not right here. The tank weights 300 lbs. empty and how in the world am I going to move that tank? Any other ideas sure would be appreciated.

Epoxy the cracks if your not that hot on getting it replaced. The epoxy will set up the cracks and will not crack there again. It will melt the plastic together.

180gal of water can make a pretty big mess - if there is any doubt as to whether the tank will hold you should deal with the issue.

Find out if the manufacturer is willing to foot the bill for the removal or meet you part way. I'm sure the cost of moving the tank is a whole lot cheaper than cleaning up the mess that will result if she lets loose.
