I have some star polyps that are growing up the side of my clam. I am thinking about trying to kill them like aptasia, by making a kalk slurry and spraying at them. My question is with it burn the mantle of the clam being as they are growing very close to it?
i would not try that it will irratate the clam and maybe kill it.scrape off the star polyps manually with a blade or your finger nail.i dont think it will kill the star polyps as effectively as aptasia either.
star polyps grow in mats that are easy to pull off...extract the clam and put it in a bucket of tank water or a deep bowl and just pull the star polyps off...make sure the GSP's are retracted so you don't actually rip the polyps releasing all kinds of toxic crap in the water. The only issue is that GSP are very noxious so I would get them off the clams as quickly yet carefully as possible. Also, don't let the clam sit in the water you do it in. If you are comfortable clams can even be out of the water and you can rip them off this way.
A razor blade may help.
You are thinking way to far into this...just rip them off doood.
