will my flame angel make it?

65g Ritteri Tank
I discovered this morning that my flame angel jumped out of the tank. I picked him up to discover his gills were still moving. I recessitated him by placing him back in the tank and running water over his gills. After 10 min of this I let him go into the tank. He kinda drifted and kicked a little bit to anchor himself against a rock. He was breathing very hard. I had to go to work and hoped for the best.

I came home to see him swimming in the back of the tank behind this rock. He kind of just swims up and then drops back down but is not breathing hard. Looks stressed tho, I turned off the halides and I am just gunna let the actinics run for the night to try and make him relax.

Should I consider him good to go from here on out...or is the worry not over.

If this fish makes it, this would be the toughest fish ever. A beautiful one too.

He's still swimming around, hasn't ate yet. Something looks different about him though. Can fish have like brain damage like when human's don't get enough oxygen?

I don't really know the answer but I would guess yes. Brain is brain. I had an snowflake eel once that got out and was saved but had completely different personality on his second life.

Try make sure no other fish or things bother the fish,as a guy owning three flames it's very sad to hear a thing like that but flames are sometimes strongers than you thought, I once left home for a week and discovered the protein skimmer was broken when I was out. Half of the fish died because lack of oxygen but the flames still survive the ordeal. Hope your fish can recover.

I have a purple tang in the tank...I've had him for a while. I think he's being pretty territorial with the flame right now..I recently changed the whole aquascape and old territories were lost.

Here are some pictures of him today. His left side is really beat up and his left fin is like missing. I believe this is why he looks so wierd swimming. He really damaged his fins somehow..i dunno if this is the tang or him flopping on the carpet.

He's still swimming around, have yet to see him eat anything yet. I put some nori in there to see if he's willing to eat some of that. Usually the prime reef flakes are devoured by him. His right side doesnt seem too bad.

Im going on a golf trip tomorrow so I wont be able to keep a close eye on him for four days. My mom is stopping by my place to feed the fish. I think once I see him eat a lot of my worries would go away. I'd be super bumed if he died now after surviving this long.

Was he lying on his right side when you picked him off the floor? If his left was air side up mabye it dried out faster and that explains the damaged area.

I believe he was on his left side...thats why I thought the damage was more...the carpet soaking the water off of him

I think the loss of slimecoat did him in. I once had a Tusk jump (and was held down by my Springer spaniel) I literally poured stresscoat over him; he's still thriving. Flames are usually fairly hardy fish, but (IME) don't handle injury well. I've lost a couple to what seemed like minor wounds.
