Will rinsing Live Sand in my recycled tank water help ?

I know not to wash in fresh RO/DI water because ...well duh !

Question is, would rinsing it in ready mixed saltwater help ?

Getting the cloudy-ness gone, and maybe get rid of some kill off of anything that is dead ? Could possibly leave it agitating in a large canister for a while ? Let it sit, and start the rinse over , if needed ?

I've read how it could set a mini cycle, so trying to rid of any issues as best as I can would be great.

Does it even make a difference if I SW rinse or not ?

Any time I've added new sand, I use my water change waste water to rinse the new sand. I'll dump my live sand into a 5 gallon bucket and stir the new sand as you dump your used salt water into it. Then just pour the cloudy water off the top of the sand into the drain or wheverever you dump your used saltwater... Think "gold panning" for clean sand

I've always needed to wash my sand with way more water then I can get with old tank water. Wash until near clean with tap water, then wash several more times with old tank water.

do a test run if it's really course perhaps you can get all the dust off with just a wash or two.

+1. Unless it's a very small quantity of sand, to get the cloudiness gone you'll need to rinse several times with quite a bit of water, likely more than you'll be able to get from your tank. There's not reason to waste salt on something like that, tap water should be fine.

No, you do NOT want to rinse live sand with tap water....the chlorine and rapid change in salinity will surely kill the bacteria that makes it "live".
