Will Sohal Tang pick on large Angels???

Hey guys, was wondering if a sohal tang would pick on a blue angel, Imperator angel and blue face angel in the same tank? the only other tank in the tank is a 10 inch Naso, and the sohal is like 4 inches. Would this work? Tank is a 180g, I know small tank, temporary for about 1 yr, upgrading to a 300g later.

Possibly, I adopted an 8" emp angel from a guy who had him with a larger sohal that was relentless witht the angel.
... if you see this post paveking the emp is doing great! Total boss of the tank and growing!

is the sohal already in the tank or is this a new add? dont think you will have issues if the fish you have listed are of equal or greater size and were in the tank first. although i might be concerned with the blue angel picking on the sohal

thanks for the resposes guys, the angels are an inch or two larger than the sohal, and the sohal will be the last fish added. Hopefully everything works out. I have the angels in QT right now, when they go into the display, I will then get the sohal and put that in QT until he is ready. Actually, now I am more worried about the imperator picking on the blue face juvi...The imp is about 2 inches bigger than the juvi, and the Blue is about 1 inch bigger than the imperator...

your odds of having success keeping multiple large angels in the same tank are better because you are adding them at the same time. although there is a chance that you will have conflict with the emp and the blue face if they are in the same color phase, if one is adult coloration and still small you will a better chance. the blue face morphs at a much smaller size than the emp. the blue angel is probably gonna be your biggest aggressor. what kind of structure do you have in the tank? giving the plenty of places to hide will help also.

Well I can tell you I am going to be in a similar situation....I plan to add a Sohal in about 2 months as my last fish in my 240, there will be 3 Angels, 2 Triggers and 2 Wrasses in front of him....I am not as worried about them, my only concern is that if I ever lose a fish, the Sohal has the rep for being terrible to new additions....My fish list is in my profile...Can't wait to get the Sohal though, amazing fish.

Im not sure about large angels

Im not sure about large angels

But I had to get rid of my sohal that was with 6 triggers because he was beating them all up:hmm4: :hmm4: :hmm4: :hmm4: :hmm4: :hmm4:

My Sohal experience lasted about 3 hours. The crazy 8" SOB went in, (after QT), went nuts on every fish (even larger ones), and was promptly removed. Great looking fish but off the charts aggressive.

I hear a lot about how Sohal over time will kill just about every fish in the tank until he is alone.

As much as I shouldn't admit this but my Sohal has grown very rapidly to around 8-1/2" or maybe a little more he has been in my tank now for more than a year and I never had a problem with him with any of my other fish, he actually even lets the cleaner wrasse pick at him when necessary. I also have a powder blue, 3 clown fish, a clarkii clown and a rectagulated trigger and they seem to all get along.
I guess I'm just counting down the days untill he flips out, but I'm trying to finish up some other project around the house before I renevate my hobby room into a full blown aqaurium facility.
(in wall tank)
I can't wait untill I get this 450 up and going , when these creatures get dumped in there , there probably going to look around and wonder where everyone else went. hahaha:D

I had a 7 inch sohal added last into a 125 gallon and a 4 inch powder blue kept the sohal hiding for a week! The sohal looked in the mirror one day (week later) and said, "Heyyy wait a minute I am bigger and I am tough" and thennnnnnn the sohal stopped hiding and began itimidating the powder blue.. The sohal tang is not as aggressive as people think but it can hold it's own and if not kept well fed can bully a bit....I think you will be fine as long as you keep everyone well fed. (but..you never know...sohals can be different completely from one fish to another) Tim

I add a powder blue after my sohal and it went right after him. I turned the lights out and he still went after it leaving little gashes from his tail all over the PBT I had to remove the PB (which later died) They were about the same size 5-6 inches. How ever i can add smaller fish such as some smaller angels and other smaller fish with no problem. But would not recomend addinf other tangs after the sohal

mine was a devastating bully. I think keeping all these fish together and whats possible is one thing, but how happy are they "dealing" with one another.

Sohal: If he is the boss and no one is half his size he should be ok. If they become a food competitor then he bullies them. He bites them with his little teeth.

sohals

sohals

I have owned 5 sohal tangs.....

4 of them never bothered anyone..... 1 of them..the one I have now....will only bother the others when I put NORI in the tank on a clip...he gets pretty
bossy at that point...So...I outsmarted him...I put 3 CLIPS IN and he has learned to settle down....

He has not hurt a single fish and I have 11 tangs in the 8ft 280 gallon.

However, the PBT ...now therrrre is a mean fish when it wants to be....

its a real crap shoot with tangs... Tank size and population of that tank definitely come into it along with who was in the tank first and size of
the tangs....

I have powder blue, sohal living in complete harmony...but...there are 9 other tangs in the tank... If it was just the two of them I think it would go down to 1 and the PBT would lose.

sOHALS can be very mean fish when they want.

Its not their teeth..is the spike in their tail that is deadly-same with PBT
