yes they do, my true perc looked just like yours when i first got him about 6-7 months ago. but now the color on her has really matured and all the black has filled in where the orange used to be.

Thay are not onyx so I dont think they will turn black. The edging around the white bars and on the dorsal fins have no or very little black at the moment so I just hopr it develops a little.
They are WC so I dont know the age.

Mine didn't get much darker than they were when I got them.

Because of their lighter coloration I would guess they are from SI. I would also guess from the fully complete thick tail stripes they are adults & not juvi's. possibly young adults but adults non the less.

Look at your clowns close ... around the black do you see any areas that look like a shadow color in the orange? You should be able to see a distinct darker shadow & then it will cut to the light orange of the rest of the body color.

IF you see that you can be assured your clowns will get black in those shadow area's. If not they probably wont get more black color.

If you can get a full side view of them I could tell you also.

There is a genetic limit to how much black they will have, like you said yours are not onyx. There is also an environment link to the black. It can spread or recede(within limits) based on the clowns environment and host anemone. I have a tank that has turned all the percs I've put in it from black to orange. When I have but them in other tanks the black has returned. The process takes several months.
Judging from your pics, I would say that both have potential for the black to expand between their first two bars, but probably not between the second .

very interesting there are some shadowy areas around the tail side of the last bar and between the first and third stripe.
They both have no black at all on the second dorsal fins and very little on either of the pectoral fins.

bit of a bummer not knowing the age but thats a big prob with wc I suppose.

thanks for the help.
