Will the real Z & P please step forward

You know it amazes me as I look around at Z & P's and start to realize just how many coloration variations are out there. And as I'm looking online I see several different looking ones with the same name but at different online stores. For example Rainbows, I found different looking ones at a couple of online stores but they were named the same"¦.. Rainbows. Now"¦. I know lighting and other stuff contributes to color but some are not even close to looking alike. Does all this make sense lol. So anyway I find myself thinking"¦.. which one is the real Rainbow please step forward. I guess this whole naming idiosyncrasy can be said for all coral types but mostly Z & P's from what I've seen so I wanted to vent here and share with you guys and gals.

I don't even pay attention to the names there are too many similar "morphs"

Vendors just give zoas and palys names to help ID them in their own stores sometimes. Most of the time it's so the vendor can sell the coral easier and for a higher price. You'd be amazed at how many people won't buy a coral unless it has a designer name. I talked to a vedor and he said he gets in the same coral and will give it different names every time he posts it for sale so he can sell it easier.

Yeah- these days there are no "real" names. Just ignore them and buy what ya like. There are sooo many different names for the same exact polyp.

To tell you the truth, the names are just so they make their money and play the game of the market.
The "name game" began long ago with the SPS/LPS. Back then there were no weird names for zoas/palys yet. They used to call the zoas by their colors. Was simple ( and inexpensive!!!!). Now a days, because of the large number of new reefers/market, it became the "new fashion".
Once more: all about $$$$.

But many people like that. So that's something that we all respect and can't do nothing about it. That's the way it is.

The frag$ too. Another way for some to make the extra money. They buy the wild colony, frag them, and sell as "frag$". One could think that they actually reproduce them in captivity to sell, when most are just wild colonies "fragged". The truth is that they glue new "frag$" to the white plugs and sell for more. Just to make more money!

Grandis hit that nail on the head. I didn't really want to put the money equation in here as that horse has been beaten up so bad but the name game has become just as destructive. Point I was trying to make subtly. Look putting another name on something that is already known by another name in the market to keep the price up or get sales going again which some stores are doing is just wrong no matter how you look at it. When I started reefing they could not give z & p's away no matter what they looked like lol. Just another junk coral. Now look at the market. As a few very good Z & P reefers other than Grandis on here have said time and time again only a few people are getting rich off our hard earned money and as of late it has been the name game getting this done as well. Allot if not most of the posts on here are here because someone's $100 dollar one to two polyp frag is dieing and how do I fix it. I don't know about the rest of you but that just sickens me and is why along with the other subject I will mention turn me away and why I don't come here every day anymore to check it out. When I see these threads I don't think sucker but think how sad it is when some people save weeks or maybe even months for a single polyp and have to just watch as it melts away not due to there tank or anything they did. Another one is how do I get these to grow faster.
Now I know not all of you that ask this have these intensions but a majority are asking this so they can grow em out fast frag em and make there money back by taking someone else for a ride before the market becomes saturated with them. I have to agree with Friday when he posted in another thread that the forum is sliding down hill. Ok flame away folks but before you do take a minute and really think about what I have wrote before posting what you have to say. I really don't think you could say anything that would justify any of this crap that is going on. Sorry so long winded and it's JMO folks. And think before you buy!!!!!!
