Optima would work fine, but IMO is overkill for what you need.

Saltwater can cause more corrosion than freshwater. Also, you can mount it anywhere in your boat because it’s leakproof and with 16X the vibration resistance of traditional batteries it can handle the beating of pounding waves. They also have more power so you can run all your electronic gear and never have to worry about drifting out to sea because of a dead battery.

Where is it going? In your tank with a wavemaker, or in a static, dry area? It doesn't need to turn over a marine engine, just provide low current for a small pump. It would work fine and all, but again, is overkill.

Thanks. I posted this because I can pick it up locally. I'm not sure if I can find the batteries (locally) that you guys are using.

All you need is what is call an SLA, "Sealed Lead Acid". This is the type of battery a UPS would use. Its meant for indoor use. I would think you could find one somewhere. How much is that Optima?

Can you leave the charger connected to the battery and plugged in 24/7?

Yes, I do. It is a float charger which is meant for that.

Old thread but I'm looking to hook up a safety connector to a battery. How do you actually connect it to the battery? Just bare strip to the wire and clip on?
