Will this be overloading a 12DX?

Ok, I'm still undecided about my fish selection for my cycling 12DX. The only thing I know I'm getting is a yellow clown goby. I've read several threads talking about how Ocellaris clowns are "happier" in pairs. I was planning on getting one, but would 2 be doable or overloading?

I plan on keeping mostly softies with one or two LPS's. I was thinking since the clown goby is so small, it wouldn't add much more bioload than just the two Ocellaris's. What is your thoughts?

I had two in my 5 gal, they did fine, though I did move them up to my 24. I believe it says 10 and up would be fine, but make sure someone else says the same first. Check drsfosterandsmith.com they should have the size there.

The "general" rule i have read was 1 Inch of fish per gallon.
Those 2 are what 4 inch max or something like that?
So even if your goby made it to 4 inchs you would be fine.

That is the rule of thumb for fresh water tank, which isn't a very good rule at all. One common rule of thumb for SW is 1 inch per 5 gallons, which again is not a good rule either.

You'll probably be ok with an ocellaris pair and the clown goby in your 12g, but it depends on your feeding habits, filtration, and frequency of water changes. The only way to know for sure is to monitor your nitrates.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I mean, I would get juvi's, and the clownfish in my 46g has barely grown in the 2 years I've had him. I'm planning on having cheato in a fuge in the nano and weekly water changes.

thats a new one to me but you are correct those "General" rules are pretty useless.

try and find smaller clowns, a lfs store by my house sells alot of small fish, i have 2 perculla tank raised, a sailfinblenny, and a scooter blenny. theyve been happy for 8 months so far, i do a weekly water change of 2.2 gallons(premixed nutri-seawater) and i have live rock in the middle chamber instead of bio's.
