Will TTM hide signs of velvet, brook or other?

Normally I do TTM for 12 days followed by observation for 3 more weeks. With my current fish (5 YT, 1 Purple Tang) in a 29g, I have been doing tank transfers for 4 weeks now... had to repeat due to seeing suspect white spots after my first round of TTM (better safe than sorry).

So by the time I am finished with this second round of TTM, it will be 4 weeks already. Given the limited space with 6 tang's I want to get them into my DT ASAP.

I know that for velvet and brook and many other diseases/parasites you would see symptoms within the first 3 weeks. But, does TTM cause any of these symptoms to recess at all by slowing down but not curing them? i.e. Similar to coppers effect on velvet.

I am trying to decide if I still put them through observation for another 3 weeks or not in a consistent tank (no more transfers). Or maybe 1 week at least.

Interesting question. I can't imagine brook would be affected at all, since it has a direct life cycle and divides by binary fission. Velvet, on the other hand *might* be affected (but not eliminated), since it has a life cycle similar to crypto. Not sure, though. I guess that's why it's important to observe for 30 days post-TTM.

TTM will not hide velvet or brook

if the LFS you got it from was running copper, that can mask it for a month.

I asked that same question a little while back and was told no by Steve (thanks).
Here is the link to it if you are interested. Post #625

great minds think alike! :wildone: Thanks!

the fish had been in copper (<.35ppm) when I got them, but not since. i will take the patient road with these fish and give it another 2-3 weeks. their aggressiveness subdues each time I do a tank transfer, so maybe I will still do transfers every 5-6 days or so just to trick them into thinking they are in a new environment. e.g. not for parasite purposes. or just shake up sizes and shapes of PVC.

That is correct to a degree. TTM does not mask; a low level of copper can mask for 2-4 weeks.

Correct, as is expected. Be sure to keep fish at least two weeks or so after (or before?) using TTM. This is a good time to worm fish with Prazi-Pro too; I doubt it masks anything.
