hi im interested if there is some one willing to help me get my tank running? i just purchased a 75 gallon tank but just the tank i was wondering what you need to sart a salt water reef i know mostly every thing i would need. i just dont want to make a mistake in buying stuff that doesnt work that well. there are some very wise people about reefing. there isnt anybody i know personally that are into what im into so i would greatly appreciate the help! i need help on what types of lights, skimmers, filters, pumps, heater, chiller, sump, get my drift? oh and why do you need a overflow? waht does a uv serilizer do?? is it needed? will you help me make a perfect reef??! thank you. i will be on....

soft corals, fish it would depend lion fish? clowns? im not to sure i want a reef but go well with soft corals

This is just such a broad question... it needs to be narrowed down some.

First you have decide what you want to keep in the tank, Softies, LPS, SPS, FOWLER (fish only with live rock) or basic fish tank. Typically lionfish and clowns are not put in the same tank, lionfish eat everything that fit in there mouth, they work better in a fish only or better yet a species only tank.

Second what have you looked at? its easier for most people to say yay or nay to a product then it is to just suggest something (especially since we don't know your budget)

last but not least, Is your tank drilled? does it have any type of "overflow" in it? an overflow of some sort is needed if you want a sump. It is how the water gets to the sump. UV sterilizers work to help control ick outbreaks a long with a few others but are certainly not needed, and many feel on a reef tank that there a waste.

Also as far as heater and chiller go, it depends on your lights alot. if you have a lot of MH lighting then your tank is going to get hotter and depending on what temperature your house is set at you may chiller. if its to cold in your house and you don't have high lighting or even if you do have high lighting but it gets to cold at night you will need a heater.

chillers I dont have much experince with I have never needed one I just keep my hood very cool with fans and my house is always COLD :D but heaters I have always liked the visatherm stealth heaters they seem to work pretty good. would also recommend a controler for them since they can fail and nuke a tank.

I would highly recommend reading "The New Marine Aquarium" by Michael Paletta to get started. It is an excellent book that covers the basics. Then we could help you fine tune and educate you on the more techinical aspects and methods.
