Willember, Kole is Happy!

Willember,

My daughter named the Kole Tang "Trophy". She was angry when the Powder Blue Tang ("Bluey") kept chasing Trophy into hiding. I was worried and called Chris (Larson) who reassured me that the punking was likely Bluey's way of laying down the law! Sure enough, after about 2 hours, Bluey allowed Trophy to swim with him, a fin's distance behind him of course. Now, they swim and eat together as if they had spent their short lives together!

Thanks again. Here are pics of the children, just in case Jennifer is feeling empty nest/tank blues!

Thanks.

Thanks.

Thanks Cathy!

In addition to fish, I now have a few zoos and some hard coral frags that will hopefully start giving my LR some color!

The toad stool I got from you is still happy but its vertical growth appears to have slowed. The cap is over twice as large as before and the stem/base bends forward during the daylight period. I think its leaning towards a higher flow zone (currently working to increase flow). I also wondered if it needed more light given that the cap appears to be growing more than the base. Last week, I moved it up to a piece of LR (mid-height) but it is still leaning. (Of note, when the "sun sets" and the light go off, the base/stem stands back upright! Is there any harm with moving it too frequently? Suggestions very welcome!

Hi Cass,

The shape they take is a combination of light and flow.

Barrett, the ones you were holding for me got really tall and skinny. Were they under high or lower light than in my tank? What about flow?

I would think they tend to "reach up" and get tall when they want more light. If the cap is growing more than the base, then the light must be plenty and more likely to be too high than too low.

Mine seem to be happiest when they have a hydor or powersweep on them ... something to give changing flow instead of laminar. In my 55 they're just under power compacts and do fine anywhere from close to the top all the way to the bottom.

He will lean and change shape to get the flow he wants. Trying a place with a little more flow wouldn't hurt.

They're really adaptable corals and will adjust to a pretty wide variety of light and flow.

He looks healthy in the pic you posted. It does look like he's leaning at the same angle your return flow is in the picture.

Glad to see him looking healthy and happy.
