Wireless water temp probe with smartphone app

I do not want to invest in a apex for my small tank but would like to have the ability to monitor the temp levels from my cell phone and receive alerts.

I have seen a few temp probes out there that allow you to hop on from your smartphone and track water temps for hot tubs and pools.

Has anyone done something similar to avoid the investment of a controller? I would definitely get an apex if I had a much larger tank but mine is a nano.

(And please don't suggest that a controller is the only way to go just because you can shut it off and on from your phone. I understand this but I can simply call my wife and have her unplug the heater for me if I was alerted.)

Would like to really keep this on topic.

If you are a fairly technical person, a script could be written to take a wireless pool temp sensor and have it loop, checking the temperature in 5 minute intervals, writing to a log. This log could then be used on Splunk forwarder.

Download a free version of Splunk Light and use the splunk forwarder to get your data imported into splunk. You could easily then create a dashboard and alerts on Splunk that would allow for notifications should temps go below or above a certain threshold as well as have graphs and historical reporting.
