wiring question

Hello to all, I'm trying to wire my first dyi mh ballast . I think i wired it correctly but when i plug it in the lamp it arcs or looks like lightning is going thru it and sound like it shorting out. I'm not to sure about wiring the capacitor neither. Any help would be much app..

If you read the directions and are still unsure of how to do it. Let somone else do it. Mhs need to warm up. They hum and slowly get bright.

I sounds like you wired it up to the 277 volt wire instead of the 120 volt one. Check to see if your ballast is wired for both voltages. If it is then check to make sure you wired it to the 120. If this is the case then make sure you put a wire nut over the end of the unused 277 volt wire. It will have electricity going to it.

the wires on the ballast are labaled 120,240 and so on . i think the problem is with the cap. to light connection. Also i'm using the advance m58 ballast.
