Wish that I never added a mini carpet anemone

One of the mini carpet anemones in my tank caught and likely killed a blue chromis of mine this evening. I ripped the fish free but it was pretty discoloured and limp. I haven't seen it in a few hours.

Now, in the process of pulling the fish free, one or two of the little anemones was shredded by my tweezers. Hoping that I didn't poison the tank by doing that.

About a year ago I added one of the mini carpets and it has divided like 4 times. If I can ever get them detached from their rocks, I want them gone! :headwallblue:

Can you be specific about the species you're having trouble with? There are a handful of anemones (and some mushroom corals) that are sometimes called "mini carpets." Some are definitely fish eaters, others are pretty harmless.

If you mean the maxi mini carpet, yes some reported they can even catch and eat clownfish. I saw horrible pictures...

Not looking for help here, just sharing my experience. For the little colour that it ads to the tank, I wouldn't buy it again knowing what I've come to find out.

I woke up this morning and found my Maxi-Mini smashed under a rock. He was almost not visible. I was thinking, 'What's up, rough night?" Then I noticed my clown fish missing. After a couple of hours he unfolded out of the rock and fanned out all fat and sassy and happy. I have looked everywhere for the fish but to no avail. I really think Mick ate her and he was closed up, digesting her when I first saw him this morning. I feel horrible about my fish! However, I am new to the hobby and my tank is just 3 months old so I didn't have any other fish. I am going to hold off on fish for now and just enjoy the corals and the as------, the Maxi-Mini. I actually really like him.

Get a small air pump and blow bubbles on the foot. It iritates them to begin letting go. Every few minutes gently prod the foot and they will pop off.

Has worked great for me with various nems over the years.

Rock flower anemones can be a good sub for mini-maxi carpets if you want something "carpety" and much more fish safe. Tons of awesome colors.
