witch light should i get?

not that I can help you at all (I'm a complete newbie myself) but I think you would get better help if you could provide information on exactly what you are keeping in your tank.

For ease of use, the Coralife...otherwise you have to figure out how/where you're going to hang those pendants.

i just ordered the one for my 20H tuesday and it will be here today. i will let you know how much i like it and i will post some pics of it asap

i don't have any pics of it yet, but i can tell you that the sunpod is absolutely stunning on my 20H. i will get some up asap!

cool cant wait to see the pics.

heat would be bad depending on tank size. and most people ditch the glass top to aid in bettter gas exchange. If your fish are jumpers (firefish etc.) then get some eggcrate from home depot to fit over tank. but either way a MH that close to water isnt good.

the sunpod has a glass cover that is very thick and eliminates the harmful uv rays. i found my camera this morning, but i am not at home so i will get pics up tomorrow. by the way, the blue moonlights act as actinics and my coral glows tremendously when these are on. the shimmer effect of this lamp is incredible, and i can't even explain how excited and pleased i am with the performance of this light, just after 2 days of use.

I have to agree with going with the 150watt sunpod. The is a great fixture. I just bought the 70watt for my 9 gallon and I love the light.

I'm excited to see the pics....the reason I'm asking -

I have a 35 Hex upstairs that has 4 - 13W PCs over it. FOWLR.

I'm having some success w/ my 90G RR downstairs and the mushrooms and Xenia are starting to flourish....I'll be adding a few more softies soon. No SPS - not my thing.

I've always wanted to get the shimmer of a pinpoint lightsource over the 35 Hex w/o hanging a pendant.....and if I put some softies in the hex - I'd think I'd need more than just the 52W of PC.

So - I'm leaning towards the Sunpod 70 w/ LEDs and have one of the small dual 13W PC fixtures behind it.

The site I'm contemplating buying the Sunpod from shows it has legs...I guess I could elevate the thing so it wouldn't be directly on the glass.

Love to hear thoughts....I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on this one...

cool cant wait to see the pics. my light will be here tuesday hopefully it arrives in one piece you all know how UPS is. everl0ng did you upgrade from different lighting? if so what type was your old light and what was the watts? are you using eggcrate or anything on the tank to acclimate the corals to the new light? the way i was thinking of doing it is put eggcrate then 2 sheets of fiberglass window screen and remove one a week untill i have none on it.

ok i recived my light today everything works on it. i havent put it on my tank yet ill do that tomorrow morning. it also came with the hanging kit im gonna see if there are studs in the ceiling where my tank is if so ill hang it from the ceiling. if there's not any where my tank is ill make something that sits behind my stand and goes over the tank to hang the light from. but if i dont do it from the ceiling ill use the legs on the light for now till i make something to hang it from.

yeah i was using eggcrate, but when i took it off it seemed to shine a lot brighter for some reason? yeah, i did upgrade from a single 65 watt PC fixture, and now i am getting a crapload of algae from that (my guess). i didn't have any corals in it at the time so i didn't have to worry about that. i bought a favite and i bought it from a tank that already had a MH fixture. that is what i am going to dso from now on. i will just buy my corals from lighting close to what i hjave so that i don't have to worry about the difference in lighting for a long time of acclimation. i have mine on the mounting brackets and i seem to not haver ANY heat issues at all, but i do have a lot of evap. the LED lights are amazing though. the blues act as actinics do with the glowing of the corals. the fan is so nicely quiet as well. i have a green clown goby that use to hide ALL the time when i had my PCs, but ever since the day i put on mu sunpod he comes out and stays out all day long. i am glad you made the decision of the sunpod. it is a very wonderful fixture. you will be very happy with it. sorry i don't have any pics yet, i keep forgetting to buy a new usb cord for my camera.

i got the light on my tank today. it makes my tank look amazing i love the shimmer effect. i put a piece of eggcrate and 1 piece of black fiberglass window screen. ill remove the window screen piece in 1 week and the eggcrate 1 week after that. my temp did go up from 80.1 to 81.0 but thats because we had the heater on in the house. i have 2 vantec stealth 60mm fans on the tank i turned them on and 5 mins later it was back down to 80.1

Glad you're having good luck with the Sunpods.

I like Finnex fixtures...they spend less on marketing ($0?) and many people haven't heard of them IMO, but my LFS uses them all over their place, they said they're great.

I have a 150W MH about to go over a 22g glass M-Tank...I like b/c it has integrated actinic bulbs too.

You can get moonlights these days for so cheap and put/place them where ever you want above your tank.

Sure you can get Finnex fixtures lots of places, this happens to be the first thing Google popped up if interested:

18" 186 WATTS (1) 150w HQI MH & (2) 18W T5 $299.99

Good luck -
