Woke up to a surprise this morning... RBTA splitting!

It was super inflated last night and woke up this morning to it looking like it had tried squeezing into the rocks in a weird pattern. After the actinics kicked on, I could see the tissue of the RBTA tearing as it was pulling apart. One of them is a fair amount smaller than the other, but I'm hoping both sides will recover. Anyway, I'll have pics of the journey as always.

How long have you had it? Splits can be good or bad. Sometimes it's a sign of stress and other times it's just a sign of good health. If it's new I'd go with the former and if it's old I'd go with the latter.

Did you make any changes the night before that may have caused it to split? I have an RBTA in my Solana and it's close to 10" across....hoping it splits soon.

I have a GBTA that split right after I got it. They have both grown HUGE. I moved their favorite rock a different angle and one of the split again. The 2 Large ones won't move off of the rock they are on and it is one of my best pieces of rock. I would love to get rid of all but one because it limits the corals i can put in the tank. My clowns are way too attached to completely get rid of them. They are fun to watch as well.

I wish my clowns would migrate into the nem(s). I think the current plan is to let them both heal up, maybe grow a bit and then see how we like them in the tank. Ultimately, I do believe one will be sold.

The larger half took food today and ate it happily. I didn't attempt to feed the smaller half because I don't think it has a mouth yet.

Looking good! Good luck and an important thing is to keep a stable environment while they heal. Don't want any crazy changes that may stress them. IMLE, when they split due to bad conditions they do it in hiding. Anybody with more experience please correct me if I'm wrong, that's just what I have observed in properly established vs improperly established tanks containing RBTA's.

Well, neither of these halves have hidden nor did the original hide.
Nice gift! New anemones are always great!

Yes, now to let it grow a mouth, recover and grow a little larger and then attempt to sell :)

anyone know about how long until the smaller section grows a mouth? I may have to raise my LED intensity a bit if light will be the only energy source for the little guy.

wait at least 1 month to feed it until it´s totally healed up. The digestive system was divided into two halves, if you feed it right now, you´ll give a critical bacterial load on a open wound and you can contamine it leading to death.
