Woke up to find my Rod Onyx on ground

Steve, it doesn't seem to get salt build up. I've had it over my 125 for over 6 months, have never taken it off to clean. A few times I've had some small spots get a little salty and just used my turkey baster to spray it off. With the mesh being only a 1/4", I think even a firefish would have a hard time getting out.

downtown pets has 2 very young and healthy true perc clowns.

how small are they? i lost a rod onyx to carpet surfing a few weeks ago too. The one I have left is tiny and I don't know if it has changed to female yet so i need to get another real small one.

Why not just put a glass top on the dang tank Mike. I have to imagine a glass top would look better then egg crates.

An outer orbit light fixture :D

So nothing... I mean if they jump straight up they'll just get a head ache... but I guess I can go back to egg grate.

Well I told myself this. And I have a complete canopy, with mesh on the back, and the overflows mostly covered over with mesh. Yet my wrasse still got in there. .

Yes, I make them like that, it's just an easy way to use the mesh.
Glass covers retain a lot of heat and block light, even if you clean them daily. Egg grate blocks a lot of light, don't look as nice and can leave spots that only your fish can find.

sully- what is that mesh and where did you get it and how did you put that velcro edge on the mesh part? Did you notice a higher amount of evaporation when you remove the glass and use mesh?

You'll get more evaporation but cut down on heat, your corals will get more light and you won't be cleaning glass all the time.
The evaporation can be a plus if you drip kalk.
It's a bit of a job, the mesh has to be stretched and then have the velcro attached and sown. The mesh is sold in large pieces, so I still have a lot of it. The velcro is the exspensive part of this cover, even when purchased in bulk sizes. Here's the one I made this week for another cmas member.

I am selling them or if someone prefers just some of the mesh. I couldn't buy just enough for my tank, had to get a large ammount, the minimum I could order.
