Wondering if someone can ID...

Based on a description.

I have at least 4 quarter-inch bugs that look very similiar to cockroaches in my refugium. They are silver and _very_ fast. I think they are burrowing into the sand during the day and then crawl into my chaeto ball at night because that's the only time I have seen them.

I've tried to get them into a turkey baster to take pics to with no success. I also checked Melev's reef and haven't seen anything like them on there.

Got any ideas?

I have those also--they are a form of copopods

Really? I know I have copepods because I see them on the glass all the time, but these are much much much larger... I didn't think copepods got that big.

I looked on Melev's page again and found an alternate image for amphipod that looks exactly like it (its even photographed in chaeto like mine were):

Looks like maybe like it's a gammarid amphipod from the link you gave me.
