Just wanted to celebrate. I FINALLY have my new 38g sumpafuge up and running. I don't want to use the cascade canister filter that I had been using anymore but I want to add some filter bags with assorted media into the sump. Anyone have any arguments against that?

Hey jhendu, What type of media? I missed the pic. of the sump. Did you find any Cheato? Have any rock in there? Did I send you the link on the sump lighting? Oh yea, did I tell you I missed the Picturesssss of the sump????? hint hint

Talk about being a space cadet. I completely fogot to post pics prior to installing the thing under the tank. Here's a couple that I just snapped but they do suck. I had been running some chemi-pure and NO-NO3 as well as carbon in the canister. Clearly I'm hoping that the sump would eventually make the use of these items a moot point, but until then should I use them? I do have some rock (about 9.5lbs of aquacultured base) in the first chamber and Bifferwine hooked me up with some chaeto (although my fuge chamber has room for TONS more). Which actually leads me to another question...is there such a thing as to much macro in a fuge? I based the design off of cerratas sump design that he has listed in his gallery. I have yet to add the DSB to my fuge. I unfortunately will be moving the tank the first week of December as we move to a different house. During the move I am going to remove some sand from the main tank and add it to the fuge. I have my plenum in place for that already and plan to make the sand about 3-4" deep. I'm running my POS seaclone in the sump as well as a phosban reactor loaded with phosban. I have an 18inch fluro with a plant/aquarium bulb in it running opposite times of the powercompacts on the main tank. I had read a few places that it was a good idea to run fuge lighting at night so that's the current setup. I still have to add the trim to cover the cut lines for the hole I had to cut in the stand in order to slide the sump in (thanks again to the board for that idea).

Funny you should mention that...the power went out today and the siphon that feeds the sump (I know, get it drilled...eventually) failed to start back up although it should have due to the aqualifter. Anyway, I get a message over the radio while we;re getting ready to start engines on the airplane to call my wife, it's an emergency. I call her up and she's in panic mode cause the water is at the top of the tank. I have the return pump at a fairly high point in the sump to mitigate the risk of too much water heading up incase of siphon failure. I guess I need to tweak that a bit more. She managed to get the pump unplugged in time to avoid anything more than a few drops getting away and I'm about to go in there and get the siphon going again. less than 24 hrs and already a power failure with issues...go figure.

GOD I LOVE THE SMELL OF SALTWATER IN THE MORNING !!!

So I got everything up and running again. It didn't take much, I just had to close the valve tht I installed in line with the return pump about halfway. This gave the HOB overflow time to start siphoning effectively before the pump sucked to much water out. Once it started I opened the valve back up to full and everything is peachy. It's got me wondering if the Mag 7 might be a little to much pump for the current configuration though. I fear the first time the power goes out and we're not home. If I was to get the tank drilled, how long do you think I would have to wait before putting everything back in. Should be at least 24hrs for the silicone to set, right? What would I do with all of my stuff in the meantime? I guess that the rocks, corals and fish would be OK for about 36 hrs in rubbermaid. What do you guys think? As I've mentioned before, I am moving the first week of December and if I'm going to drill, that would be the time to do it. I'd also have to figure where to drill it and get the glass or acrylic cut to silicone in. Jeez, more money and just in time for the holidays.

Wow that is really weird! I have been doing that alot lately! I am SW saltwater could drill it but I dont know their time schedules. I guessing more $$ = less time
